The Light of Christ
When Jesus Christ walked the earth he preached and taught about us being with the Father in His heavenly Kingdom. He gave light to a world of darkness. He provided a path to follow. He never promised it would be easy, or filled with comforts. But He did promise an end to the means. Jesus gave this information, this light, to twelve selected men. One of those men chose to try to snuff out that light. The other eleven men weren't sure at first what to do with it, but held on to it until the Holy Spirit and Jesus Himself gave them the courage, strength, and ability to share this light with others.
Some of these people they
knew, many they did not. They took the Word of God and that of Jesus
Christ to wherever, and whomever they could. Like one candle lit from
another, the light spread from person to person, to anyone who would
accept the gift. It then spread from one generation to the next.
Parents shared the promise, the light, with their children and their
grandchildren.
And at the same time people continued to share the light with those who
hadn't heard. Along the way some died sharing this gift, but no need to
worry, because the promise of the light was fulfilled.
The light is often rejected by a world that can't see the darkness that encapsulates them. There were and are those who continue to try to stop the light. It's attacked with the wind of "reasoning", misunderstanding, and gusts pride and self righteousness. It's misted by cynics and splashed by evil. And yet all the time it is available to those who are willing to dry their wick with repentance.
No matter what happens, the light continues to burn, always available, and waiting to be shared; longing to spread from a wick to the wicks that lay in wait in the hearts of people everywhere. Jesus entrusted His closest friends with the task of helping all people reach His Father in heaven. The light has been passed from person to person, from generation to generation directly from Christ to you and I today. We have thus been entrusted to share the light, spread the light for the good of all. How can you spread the light of Christ today?
